A Browning Maxus II new hunting rifle is a Browning branded gun made by Fabrique Nationale d’Armes de Guerre in Herstal Belgium. Browning firearms have had great success and popularity with their Browning BAR semi-automatic hunting rifles. The new Browning Maxus II rifle being released this year represents a step up into the fully automatic category of Browning firearms.
Two Models
The Browning Maxus II comes in two different models, chambered for either .223 Remington or .308 Winchester ammunition. Each model has its own stock and barrel length. The S22 features a 16 inch .223 Remington barrel with an 18-inch overall length; the S12 as the name suggests features a 12 inch .308 Winchester barrel with an overall length of 20.1 inches. The Browning Maxus II is a gas-operated, short-stroke piston, semi-automatic rifle using the Browning AR-10 platform. Browning has added some new features to the Browning BAR design for its Browning Maxus II product line including an adjustable trigger, an adjustable cheek riser, and a user-changeable bolt handle that accepts optics and accessories. Both models are outfitted with a Picatinny rail on top of the receiver for the addition of iron sights or optics as well as having sling swivel attachment points for bipods or slings.
Calibre
The Browning Maxus II rifles will be available in both .223 Remington and .308 Winchester caliber making it a good choice for varmint, predator, and small game hunting as well as deer-sized games. Browning has not yet made any announcements of accessories or add-on parts that will be available for the Browning Maxus II rifle. Browning does have a history of providing rifles with many interchangeable options which leads to more customizability for their customers. Browning lists the weight range of these new Browning Maxus II models at 10 pounds. It is unlikely that Browning would introduce a firearm into its product line if they did not expect it to perform well in the marketplace.
Unique Design
The Browning BAR series and Browning firearms have been very successful for Browning in recent years so it is no surprise that Browning would try to expand the Browning Maxus II line. Browning has also introduced other Browning branded firearms in the past year such as the Browning Citori Plus trap, Browning A5 shotgun, and Browning Buck Mark pistol lines. Browning is a company that typically focuses on quality over quantity and many of their guns have been top-selling products for Browning in recent years. Most new and emerging hunting rifles are gas-operated semi-automatic weapons but Browning’s reverse gas system design seems to be unique enough to give it some advantages including increased accuracy potential due to reduced vibration. Browning’s proven manufacturing process will likely yield a superior finished product compared to lesser-known brands or those with less experience in creating these types of firearms. The .308 Winchester caliber will be good for hunters wanting a Browning branded semi-automatic rifle that will also take down larger game and Browning has not announced the Browning Maxus II in any other caliber.
